Fellowship

There are many opportunities to become involved in the life of the Mount Olive community. There are groups centered on work and service, as well as for social gathering and support.

  • 100th Anniversary Committee: Mount Olive turns 100 years old in 2009. This committee is in charge of planning for this special event.
     
  • Altar Guild: The Altar Guild sets up and cleans up before and after worship services; wash linens and make sure we always have enough wine, wafers, candles and flowers on hand; makes the baptismal banners and keeps track of where seasonal items are stored - the list is long.   • Book Discussion Group: This group meets monthly read, reflect upon, and discuss a good book.
     
  • Breakfast Club: A group that meets monthly at a local restaurant for fellowship and conversation.
     
  • CPR (Cleaning, Painting and Repair): Many hands make light work. When the big projects come around, this dedicated group of skilled volunteers can handle it: from fixing the plumbing, to installing new lighting, to polishing the pews! They dedicate their Thursday mornings to keeping the church building in good repair.
     
  • Depression Support Group: Many people feel isolated and in need of support through the difficult times in life. This group meets to help each other carry life's burdens of sadness and struggle.
     
  • Forward Look Committee: What will the next 5 years of ministry look like at Mount Olive? How about 10 years out? This committee is thinking it out and planning for our future growth.
     
  • Foundation: The Mount Olive Foundation was established as an endowment to ensure that generations yet unborn would benefit from our church’s vibrant ministries.
     
  • Global Missions: Mount Olive supports six overseas missions in various countries. Every year we celebrate a "Taste of" A Nation" brunch, featuring foods, music, and speakers from a different country.
     
  • Heritage Committee: You don't know know where you're going until you know where you've been. This group is dedicated to discovering and sharing Mount Olive's past with present and future generations.
     
  • Library: Every church should have such a dedicated group of library volunteers. Every parishioner should take another look at what our fantastic library has to offer!
     
  • Meals on Wheels: Mount Olive provides drivers for one week every month to deliver hot noon-time meals to shut-ins in this much appreciated community ministry.
     
  • Mount Olive Gay and Lesbian Network: a social organization of gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual and allied persons who have been drawn to Mount Olive Lutheran Church as a place of Christian worship and welcome.
     
  • Mount Olive Neighborhood Action Committee: Working to change unjust public policy or policies that adversely affect the neighborhood.
     
  • Mount Olive Women: A group dedicated to enabling Christian women to achieve their highest potential under God, in maturity toward Jesus Christ and in ministry to God's people.
     
  • Theological Discussion Group: Do you like debating the finer points of doctrine and theology? This group reads faith-based books and meets to discuss them the first Sunday of each month.
     
  • Youth Fellowship: Mount Olive's young people meet during the school year for service projects and social gatherings.
