Holy Communion

Mount Olive welcomes baptized Christians from all other traditions to commune with us.

The Holy Eucharist, also known as Holy Communion, is celebrated every Sunday at Mount Olive. During the distribution we first receive the Body of Christ (bread) from the pastor, and then receive the Blood of Christ (wine) from one of the assisting ministers.

The wine is served from a common cup, or chalice. Those wishing to commune by intinction may do so by dipping their bread in the small chalice held by the acolyte. For those who are physically unable to eat bread or drink wine, we hold to the historic and universal teaching that the Body and Blood of Christ are fully present in each element. To receive one element only is to lose nothing.

Those with limited mobility who would find it difficult to come forward for communion are welcome to remain seated. The pastor will come to commune you at your seat when the general distribution is concluded. Notify the usher as the others in your pew are ushered forward.

Receiving a Blessing

Those who are not baptized, young or old,
or those who, for reason of health or
conscience feel unable to commune,
are welcome to come forward for a blessing.
To receive a blessing, simply do not hold
up your hands to receive the bread, and
the pastor will bless you, making the
sign of the cross on your forehead.
