MOGAL
Mount
Olive Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America and is a Reconciling in Christ Congregation.
For nearly a century Mount Olive has been a place where "outsiders"
have been welcomed: new immigrants, students, young persons from
the rural communities of the upper Midwest who came to work in the
Twin Cities, lovers of music and liturgy, theological seekers and
now persons who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT).
All are welcome at Mount Olive.
MOGAL (Mount Olive Gay and Lesbian Network) is a relatively unstructured,
predominantly social organization of gay, lesbian, transgender,
bisexual and allied persons who have been drawn to Mount Olive Lutheran
Church as a place of Christian worship and welcome.
The group usually meets for a meal and fellowship once a month.
The venues vary from homes to restaurants to the church fellowship
hall, known as the Undercroft. We attempt to be a point of contact
for GLBT persons who may be seeking a welcoming Christian community
of faith or who may be struggling with issues of sexual identity
and their faith.
The movement toward a fuller expression of hospitality and welcome
at Mount Olive Lutheran Church for all people of faith has been
a steady journey on the part of many faithful, predominantly straight,
women and men. At Mount Olive it is "no big deal" to be
straight or for that matter to be gay, lesbian, transgender or bisexual.
The big deal is to worship, to be faithful disciples of Christ,
to live out the Gospel message of grace, and to share in the life
of this community of Christians as fully as we are able during the
sojourn of life.
If you would like to speak with a GLBT member of the congregation
about Mount Olive please make your request for contact through the
church office. You may receive notices of MOGAL events by e-mailing
the church office, or by calling the church office at 612-827-5919.
